Fall, a time for pumpkin spice lattes, hoodies, and bonfires. Also a time for ghosts, goblins, and hauntings. This is the time of year that we mediums have inboxes full of “help me, I’m so scared” messages. Messages from people who were just trying to celebrate the holiday by going on a ghost tour or by visiting a haunted house. Emails from people who all of a sudden have strange things going on in their homes. Why though? Isn’t Halloween just another commercialized holiday?
Nope. Halloween carries with it a certain energy and a lot of spirit!
Around the world, this is a time to celebrate the dead, worship ancestors, and make offerings to those who have passed. We in the states use it as a time for scary movies, haunted houses, ghost tours, and even seance parties. It’s all fun and games until someone brings home an unexpected house guest if ya know what I mean?
A thin veil a great thing for those who are working with spirit or trying to develop their intuitive gifts. It is important to remember however to set boundaries with spirit. Always indicate WHO you’re willing to connect with and practice your spirit connections safely. How do you learn how to do all of that? By spending hours researching, working with a mentor or taking a course!
It is so easy to connect with spirit this time of year because they are being welcomed both intentionally and unintentionally. When we watch scary movies, go on ghost tours, and visit haunted plantations we are giving our attention to those energies. Even if we don’t realize it this is setting the intention to connect. Now, multiply this by the millions of other people doing the same and collectively spirit is awake and ready to party!
I’ve had so many emails this year asking about hauntings that I haven’t been able to respond to them all. Things like ghosts in peoples homes, how to clear away a “dark energy” that won’t leave, and even worse.
The short answer as to why all of this is happening? It’s the time of year! Hey, I used to be fascinated with all things paranormal related too. Until you start doing the research that is what TV tells you ghosts are all about. So you watch scary movies and research haunted mansions, duh! But guys, remember, where attention goes, energy flows! This is why there are more hauntings, ghost sitings, and unwelcomed house guests this time of year.
What can you do about it?
If you’re not experienced or don’t have the right tools under your belt please don’t go channeling spirit just because you can! Take a course, a class, or talk to a mentor first. Then you can practice safely and have fun with it!
Going on a ghost tour without grounding and protecting your energy is like wearing a billboard that says “hey ghosts! I’m over here! Let’s chat!” They’ve been alone for a long time and now they need some light in their lives. It’s ok to be that light if you know how to handle it. If not it can be draining and frightening if you don’t know what you’re dealing with.
This is a good time of year to smudge your home and start working with your spirit guides! It’s so much fun to go on haunted tours and partake in the American Halloween traditions but make sure you’ve set yourself up for success first.
You should know that when you meditate you can’t just say “I would like to connect with whoever wants to connect with me now.” Nope, not a good idea. Try something like “I would like to connect with those in the light who have loving and healing messages for me now. I only work with those in the light.” Big difference right?
Remember you’re in charge!
Spirit can be intimidating but you’re still in charge. You have the right to say get out, you have the right to say go away, and you have the right to say I’m closed for business come back tomorrow. Getting rid of a ghost in your home isn’t that hard to do with the proper tools. The most effective of the tools being your intentions!
So remember, Halloween is fun and it’s a great time to connect with spirit but just like anything else do it wisely! Protect your energy, set your boundaries, use definitive intentions, and then have fun!
